Wrapping 1/0-2.0 light weight single ft. snake guides

I would like to hear about techniques for holding light weight single foot snake guides in place, for them to be wrapped. The usual technique of using 1/4" masking tape or even cutting it in half to 1/8" often does not leave enough foot to be adequately wrap the foot, before taking off the tape. The guides are going on a 2 wt. 4 piece 6'6" fly rod. Though I used to build rods many years ago, I am amazed at how guides and blanks have gotten smaller. A little help would be appreciated. Thank You!

You might consider what some of the guys wrapping micro ceramics are doing - start the wrap first, make a few turns, then stick the end of the guide foot under the wrap and continue.

I still use old tippet that has gone bad. Search "dealing with SF guides". It's a good solution for me. Kip

Before I put the guides on I measure a quick spacing as I tie on rubber bands at those marks. I start from the tip and as I measure I tie on. Then as I stress test I can move them.

I use Flex Coat guide foot adhesive. See the thread two posts above yours --> [rodbuilding.org]

Rod,
I use 1/8th inch wide masking tape and simply use a half wrap of tape to hole the guide long enough to get the first three wraps on the guide. This sill hold the guide well enough to finish the wrap.

Good luck
Roger
