Recent issue of RM said to take CCS data with guides up. I understand most people make spiral wraps, or so they say. Past issue said take CCS data on casting rod with guides down but I think it was assuming guides were built on top. So, what's the verdict? If guides on a casting rod are on top (opposite the trigger), and you want to get the CCS data of that finished rod, do you turn the guides up or down? I've tried it both ways and have come out with a delta of about 8 pennies. Not a big deal, but nonetheless I'd like to get it right. I'm thinking on bottom as I believe we are testing the load on the rod as it loads to cast (backswing). Re: CCS; Guides up or down.

The difference in the 2 positions will be slight at best. The fact is, you can take the measurements in any position you want. The CCS is sensitive enough to record the difference in the various axis around the blank. So take the measurements in whatever orientation you feel is most important to you. Even then, I doubt you'll record more than a .2 difference in ERN between even the softest and stiffest axis.
