Correct Thread Colors

I am rebuilding a Harnell Surf Rod for a customer. To keep the authenticity, the thread colors must be exactly the same colors as the original rod when it left the factory. The problem I am having is in identifing these colors.

To me it looks like the yellow is the old Gudebrod #207 (discontinued) or goldenrod #209. If it is the 207 I guess I can use the new Gudebrod lemon yellow #6778. What other choice would I have?

As far as the red goes it would have to be either #326 Scarlet or #335 Candy Apple. The problem is that the varnish that they used back then discolored, making it very hard to determine the correct colors.

Any ideas on how I can restore the white vinyl grips would also be appreciated.

This should get all of the old timers thinking.

Thanks.

If you can peel off some of the thread then the thread on the underside will not have weathered / been affected by UV from sunlight. You should be able to better determine the color that way.
