Correct Thread Colors

I am rebuilding a Harnell Surf Rod for a customer. To keep the authenticity, the thread colors must be exactly the same colors as the original rod when it left the factory. The problem I am having is in identifing these colors.
To me it looks like the yellow is the old Gudebrod #207 (discontinued) or goldenrod #209. If it is the 207 I guess I can use the new Gudebrod lemon yellow #6778. What other choice would I have? As far as the red goes it would have to be either #326 Scarlet or #335 Candy Apple. The problem is that the varnish that they used back then discolored, making it very hard to determine the correct colors. Any ideas on how I can restore the white vinyl grips would also be appreciated. This should get all of the old timers thinking. Thanks. Re: Correct Thread Colors

Tony,
Drop Doc Ski a note. He used to wrap for Harrington/Harnell. That may be Holland thread you're looking at, which he has a bunch of too. docski377@aol.com Mark Griffin [] C&M Custom Tackle San Dimas, California Re: Correct Thread Colors

If you can peel off some of the thread then the thread on the underside will not have weathered / been affected by UV from sunlight. You should be able to better determine the color that way. Re: Correct Thread Colors
