Talking about epoxy safety got me thinking about the similarities, etc.
Why would something like West System not be used on rods for guide wraps? Anyone tried it? Is it not flexible enough? Just wondering. ----------------- AD Re: Epoxies

Epoxy formulators try to create epoxy systems that are tailored to the task at hand. I think you'd find most of the West Systems products to be very low build - even more so than most "lite" thread wrap epoxies. It would surely encapsulate your thread wraps, but you might find it less than extremely user friendly. I can also tell you for certain that their products are not very prone to yellowing. Extreme clarity is not a priority for the purposes it was designed for.

Tom touched on a few. Epoxy, in general, doesn't like UV rays so it needs to be coated. West does offer one formula designed to be clear but even that one is intended to be top coated for UV protection. As far as I know, they don't offer a casting type resin. MAS might and I think their product is more up to date. Sterling is another good name. Fasco is local to me, prices are good, and I have seen it at places that build rods (but it didn't look like thread coat stuff).
Since I have some west on hand I do wonder if it would be okay for grips and handle work. I can't see why not given that I have no gaps to fill (EVA & reel seat reamed to fit). Russ P.S. Just a thought but there was an epoxy once used on Weatherby gun stocks. It may not be remotely suitable but was clear, stayed that way, and tough as you can get.
