Can someone please tell how to find the drag rateing of a rod blank ? thank you Ian Ramsey

Not sure what you mean. Most fishermen set their drags to slip at roughly 1/4 to 1/3rd the line rating. This should be done with the line strung through the guides as the rod flex and guides add to the amount of drag since pressure is being applied between surfaces.

sorry I meant how do they rate the rod drag ,That I have seen on rod specs, like 14kg max drag printed on the rod,how do they find that.

I think he means the max reel drag rating for the rod. I imagine it's subjective as most of our ratings are.

I didn't know that reel drag ratings were given for rods. If they are, I'd agree that they're most likely subjective based on what the rod manufacturer feels is the maximum deadlift capacity of the rod.

We test all of our blanks for maximum pound break strength by pulling the tip to failure. This is not a test that you would want to do on your own blank but these are test that we run during design. We have not decided to post such findings but I have shared a few with some folks who have asked for them. I would assume you could set your drags to these ratings without failure to the blank for the most part but you may be surprised on how low or high the pound break strengths are for such blank. The test is done in a high stick situation.
