Hi,
I am looking at starting my first rod building project. First will be a few Fly rods and then some spinning rods. I will be ordering Toms book shortly, which will be my reference point and memory bank. Being someone who learns better visually, I would like someone to kindly recommend a rod building DVD that shows the instructions for a fly rod and possibly multi-piece spinning rods for future projects . I have seen many DVD's available, but none specify fly rod building in their write ups. I have accessed the many online tutorials through the sponsors, but most I have seen so far are for one piece rods. Thank you, Richard Re: Fly Rod DVD for Beginners

The process is the same for multi-piece as one piece rods except that when it comes
to wrapping the guides you dont need to have the sections joined unless you want to. I think there is a "How is Made" video (or link to one) showing fly rods being built on my website. see link in my signature. There are also a few links to a few other "how to" sites that might have some fly rod specific learning material. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. I did a DVD on building a saltwater fly rod and I think it covers all aspects of building a decent rod with the visuals you are looking for (multiple angle shots; captions etc.) .... Mudhole / American Tackle sells them Re: Fly Rod DVD for Beginners

Fly Rod Building Made Easy by Art Scheck is the first book I got and the best for fly rods only. Lots of nice pictures. I don't know if it is still in print. If I were starting again I would do some thread wraping and finishing on a dowel rod. Practice will relieve a lot a anxiety when you do it for real. Mudhole has it along with quite a few other books. Build on the straightest axis and save yourself a ton of grief about spining a rod. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/10/2009 11:44PM by John Kepka. Re: Fly Rod DVD for Beginners

The three BEST DVDS I have found are The Saltwater Fly Rod gy Ken Preston, The Graphite Fly Rod by Russ Gooding, and Handcrafting a Graphite Fly Rod by L.A. Garcia.
