Tip For Use Of Electric Decal Media

There are a lot of rodbuilders using the ink jet media to make decals for rods. Those of you who are using the stuff know that damage to the surface and maximum usage of the material are quite important. You may not have thought of the following:

1. Design your decal with the software you are using. If you only want to print one or two try the following.

2. Print the image using draft printer settings to a sheet of inkjet paper. You may even get lucky and place the image in a position on the paper that will see no printer roller contact.

3. Use sharp scissors to cut out a piece of the media with approximately 3/4 of an inch overlap on all edges. You can use up the scraps or the scrap pieces of paper with the long strike marks.

4. Tape the media over the top of the printed image with Scotch Tape with a 1/8 overlap to the media.

5. Print decal to media - allow to dry without handling surface

6. Do not attempt to pull off the tape - cut the tape section off with scissors or the roller cutter.

The above procedures will minimize the damage to the full sheet of media caused by repetetive runs through the printer rollers and minimize the chance of handling damage.

Maximum use of the media surface is obtained.

Thanks for confirming an idea I was thinking about the other day Bill!

I was printing on water-slide media and was down to 1/2 a sheet which is now a bit tricky feeding into
my printer. I was wondering if I could just stick it down to a full sheet of stock paper and you just
answered my question.

That also addresses my dilemma with my printer and the metallic media. My printer has a habit of
causing long streak lines in the media by the feed/alignment mechanism and I've ruined complete
sheets of it. Running just the decal size piece through will save me LOTS of headach!

THANKS!

Oh, for others who may be experiencing the same line steaking, I've found that if I spray the metallic
media with a covering sealer it survives the assault of my printers feed/alignment gizmo.
