I am rebuilding an old True Temper spinning rod for an elderly gentleman and would like to use the same color thread as original. It looks like Forest Green and Black variegated thread. More Green than Black color. I probably can't find the original thread. This rod was given to him by True Temper back in the late 60's when he worked for them in North Carolina.
Something unique about this rod......The reel seat and reel is one unit. It is a Bronson reel model # 66L. The line release button is on top of the seat, right under your thumb. The rod is called a " 66 UNI-SPIN" "MULTI-TIP ". I would guess it came with two tip sections being as it is a 2 piece rod with metal ferrules. It weighs a ton ! About 6 inches ( I think ) has been broken off the tip section, don't have the broken off piece. I would like to find a tip section for this particular rod instead of trying to rebuild this one. So,,, does anyone know where I can find a tip section and/or Green and Black variegated thread ? Any info would greatly appreciated. J.B.Hunt Bowling Green, KY Edited 1 time(s). In tough cases I have wound two colors of thread together to get the variegate combination I need. Works better than you might think! Re: Variegated Thread

I can't help you on the tip section, but I probably have the thread you need. Please take photos and send them to me via e-mail, if you want me to look for it. Be sure to specify the approximate weight ... A, B, C, etc. Re: Variegated Thread

Thanks a lot Jim. I got a spool of it on the way. Thanks to another fine Custom Rod Builder friend. I am going to repair the broken tip section and see how she holds up. The rod is painted black so finish shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks again Jim, I owe you one. J.B.Hunt Bowling Green, KY Re: Variegated Thread

Jay, I used to own and fish with a UNI Spin back in the early 70s. Back then that rod was quite an investment for me. One family I ran around with used nothing but the Uni Spins. I'll see if they have any parts laying around. I don't recall any with metal ferrules though and I know mine was red.

Sorry, my friend discarded all of his old fishing rod parts a few years.

Thanks for trying Steve. They made a model 63 that was a smaller version of the model 66. I found out yesterday my brother has a model 63 in a one piece rod. His reel is gold and black , the 66 L is green and black. I am going to rebuild the tip section and put new guides on . The guy is going to use it for Catfishing, it will work fine for that.
