I've seen custom offshore rods with leather foregrips and a round winding check to the finish. What materiel do I use to make this winding check (wood/cork)? I'd like to add it as a finish to Hypalon foregrips. Thanks

Usually the cork grip beneath the leather strip is tapered down by sanding to allow several wraps of thread to be wrapped up to and over the leather then is tied off. Then you apply two or three coats of finish over your thread and up to the edge of the leather strip and what you get is a nice smooth taper up over from the blank to the foregrip. Could also build up a ramp, made with 5 minute epoxy, wrap with thread then apply finish . Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 08/29/2009 01:34PM by Ed Grella. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
