Micro guide height question

I saw a picture somewhere and it showed the height comparison from the different micro guides that each company made. I am interested in building my next rod with micros and was thinking that the guide with the greatest height off the blank would offer the chance to use one less guide for the application. Does anyone know the source of the picture, maybe? Or have the height comparison data?

Here's the dilemma with that - the higher guides will be heavier, so using one less guide may not save you anything outside of having to wrap one less guide. Maybe.

One of the intended rods already has a set of heavy stainless steel guides on it, a reman'd Kistler a friend has. He broke a guide and I was able to take the guide, wraps and epoxy off with my fingernail, he figures he wants to give micros a try so even with the heaviest micros it'll weight a boatload less.

This is now out of date as AmTack has micros as well. I believe they ride a little higher than the Fujis.

Check out American Tackle. They have micros in solid titanium, should be a lot lighter.

Don't know of the height.

Actually the guides with the longer neck (Batson's) have a shorter foot print then the shorter necked guides (Fuji’s).
So the weight should be pretty close in weight.

When guides weigh in at fractions of grams, it’s hard for anything to be a lot lighter.
As for the Titanium’s, there have been some weight comparisons posted and there is a little difference in weight. Not enough in my opinion to justify the added expense.

Steve, I don't remember the exact # but I did weigh the Ti and Steel framed micros from Fuji and Batson. In absolute terms, difference is small as we're talking tiny fraction of a gram! But in terms of percentage, it's not insignificant - something like 20-35% of I recall. So it depends on how one decides what is significant or not.

This picture is posted to compare the VISUAL differences of Amtak and Fuji micro guides presently on the market. Comparative photos of the Batson guides were posted on this Photo Board earlier. Builders who are seeking information on these guides should be aware that there is no common thread that exists across product lines. Each manufacturer's products stand alone. If you are building micro rods it probably would be best for you to obtain samples of all to see which ones fit your build style. Quick fire type responses on the Internet may not provide all the information you need to make a wise choice.

There are marked differences in the following areas that have an impact on the build.

Weight, Ring Height, Internal Diameter of Ring, Frame Design & Material of Construction, Angle of Repose, Ring Material, Method of Ring Mount to Frame, Bends in Riser, Thread Holding Additions (spade, searations on top of frame and tunnel, Foot Pregrinding and Length of Foot ,

From left to right in the photo:

1. Amtak Titanium 4.0
2. Amtak Titanium 3.0
3. Fuji LSG 3.5 SIC
4. Fuji New Aluminum Oxide Ring 3.5
5. Fuji New Aluminum Oxide Ring 4.0
6. Fuji New Aluminum Oxide Ring 4.5
7. Fuji Alconite Single Foot 6.0
