thread epoxy cristalized

mabey someone can tell me what happened and what i can do to prevent it again i had two different brands of epoxy on my bench one a few months old the other just opened last week part a crastalized and became gummie my room is dry and around 68 degress and the caps where on tight both were just 8 oz bottles butt i need to know if theres a better way to store it as this could become costly and i need to have epoxy on hand i cant keep ordering new i read about keeping it in the fridge is this a good idea any input would be great

Just warm it up and it will come back good as new. Nuke it for 5 seconds with cap off or in a glass of warm water.

thanks i thought of trying that but didnt want to chance it until i had time to put it on a test piece can you tell me what causes it or is it just the way it is as this is the first time in 3 byears i had epoxy do this to me

Temperature and age will cause the resin component to crystalize. It's normal for this to happen. As you've read, warming the resin in the microwave for a few seconds or in a pan of hot water will return it to like new condition. You do this repeatedly without causing an ill effects the resin.

It's definitely an "age" thing. What you bought new may have been on a shelf at a distributor for months ..... As above heat and use, no problem

Another thing I look for when having some stand for a while is I turn the bottles over and look to see if the solids have settled to the bottom. If so a little while in hot water gets it mixed again.
