I just dug 2 flys out of the finish of a rod I have turning. Do I have to wait for the finish to set up completely before I fix or can I mix up some fresh finish and dab on where the flys were stuck now. The finish is tacky yet but not really flowing. I sealed up the garage and sprayed for flys I suppose the spray will do something to the finish now. Should of sprayed the garage before beginning I guess.

Steve, I had a similar situation take place. One of my cats got too close to a rod in the dryer, she left a few hairs in the finish, fortunately I noticed it before it had set up. I pulled the hair out of the finish and got my heat gun out. Using some mild heat I went over the bad spot and the heat softened the finish up enough to allow it to flow evenly and remove the blemish. You would never know it had been damaged. Cats are now banned from the rod room. Re: fly trouble

Good suggestion and a very good reason for me to purchase a heat gun. I was very surprised at how well the blemish healed itself before final setup was done. I just don't have an ideal location for rod building. My garage is very multipurpose and contamination is my biggest problem. I try to finish early in the morning after wiping down any dust from the alleyway next to the garage and washing down the floor with water. This really helps for the dog hair and dust, but never thought about the flys. Thanks for the help

Looks like a dryer box would be in order. Built mine out of plexiglas so I can control critters/flies/temp. and keep an eye on it when in the area. Re: fly trouble

Thanks Kerry, I'll do a search and see if there are any plans out there for a dryer box.
