Between fore grip and reel seat

I notice some builders have something between the reel seat and where the fore grip butts up to the reel seat. What would this be and is it for keeping moisture out.

This is probably a Trim ring for cosmetics. Batson has several colors available.

Beside for the looks , some say it also helps to "protect" the cork from damaging when the screw nut of the reel-seat is screwed all the way up onto the cork...
