What is the recommended cleaning solvent for epoxy used to build grips and reel seats?

Alcohol . I use 50, 70, 91 % isopropyl depending on what the blank will stand. Even 50 % will take the finish off some blanks. You got to check it where the grip or seat will go before you start if you are not familiar with that particular blank's finish. I noticed the Clear Brown Gloss finish on the ATC blank is very sensitive to even 50% isopropyl. Same with the Clear Brown Tiger Eye blanks.

I use denatured alcohol for pretty much all my cleaning purposes when building rods. I have never had it mar and finishes on any blanks.

On the very rare occasion I really make a mess and the denatured isn't cutting it I use acetone. Again I never had a problem with it, but I would test is on a small area of the blank before using it.

I second the DNA which you can buy by the gallon usually in the paint department. I also use it for cleaning up wood turnings after sanding and during finishing stabilized wood.

Xylene is the solvent of choice for tough epoxy removal.
Just be sure to use good ventilation - preferably out of doors when using Xylene.

Take care

I use 70% Isopropyl and also use 3M Adhesive Remover or Industrial Cleaner to remove uncured epoxy. The 3M products are citrus based and are easy on finishes. If you use Industrial Cleaner follow it up with IPA because it contains a surfactant that remains on the surface. Adhesive Remover can be used without additional cleaning. You can find them at Home Depot.
