search for "lighter" musky rod blank

A student in rod building class fishes for lake muskies in Wisconsin.
He has used the St. Croix 6'6" 2m66mhf for casting bucktails which is rated for 3/4 to 3 ounces.

He wants a similar 6'6" casting rod for casting lighter bucktails for a blank rated lighter than 3/4 to 3 ounces. St. Croix does make one rated for 1/2 to 2 ounces, which should be about right, but it is a 6'10" which is too long.

Any suggestions on any blank, make or model, that would stand up to muskie fishig with the lighter 1/2 to 2 ounce rating in a 6'6" length.

As always thanks

Lamiglas makes a cgx78mh 6'6" 8-20 1/2-2oz or goes up to a cgxxh or x in the same model. They make a great blank for muskie fishing.

Buzz,
I built my self a 7'6" flippin stick just for that purpose. It works great!! I personally think a flippin stick is a great all around big fish rod, it is so vesitile. Patrick

D & E has a MU785 on their discount page. I have one from that discount line that is an 805 and it is a "lighter" blank. A great bucktail blank in my opinion. And I even use it for heavy Bass applications and when fishing big Pike. I like it quite a bit.

Hey Buzz,
This might be over simplifying the problem but how about cutting 4" off the butt of that St. Croix blank? Would it really change the lure weight that much? I have built about a dozen Muskie rods and can't believe anyone could tell the difference. What do you think?
