I am looking for a reel seat for a float rod that I am building. aluminum and graphite with wood inserts that are tapered from the front and have a hidden hood. I do not have a lathe so I can not turn one myself. Does anyone have any udea were I can buy one?

These should be pretty common. Have you looked through the catalogs of folks like Batson, Pacific Bay, American Tackle and CUI?

Once you find what you want, just contact them and ask for a list of their dealers.

I'm not sure who's insert that is. It may be custom made. The skeleton parts are readily available from many sources.

Hi Steve
You can use a 8 Wt. fly reel seat<, from Batson or any other Vendor and use a wood spacer , barrel type or I can turn you one.

Steve,

If I may chime in ... I have fished with float rods (About the only way I fish anymore.) with hidden hood reel seats and they are VERY un-pleasent to fish with do to the poor ergonomics. They look nice but fit poorly in your hand. They have a large cork area above the hood as you know. Just my .02

Steve - Not sure if he's checked this board since you posted this, but my friend Dennis Papike at Cal-West Custom Rods has made these for float rods that he has made for customers. If you'd like to contact him he could probably make one for you.
