i have a old clemmins lathe and the previous owner left alot of finish all over the top of the base. just wondering if any of you have found a better way to clean off the old dried finish.i dont like using a razor blade cause it can scratch the metal.so amyone had luck with heat or some kind of solvent .thanks

A little heat from a heat gun or hair dryer will help along with a plastic scraper. If you get yourself a heat gun, get one that has an adjustable heat setting. Usually a little heat goes a long way.

Mark,
This is a tool.
Enjoy the character of this excellent tool.
If you use it well, you will add to the finish deposits.

Lots more important things to do in life than remove old dried up finish off tools.

Take care
Roger

I bought a used Pac Bay wrapper that was used and had quite a few epoxy and finish drops on it ........ I used an alcohol torch and a soft (plastic I think) scraper. A couple second blast of the torch and each one popped off very easily ....... cleaned up very nice
