A local rod builder showed me a matte finish fly rod blank he has applied a coat of semigloss polycrylic onto to bring out a bit of shine but had not finished buiding the rod. Would this finish hold up? I use quite a few matte blanks as I like a very low key looking rod but need to build a donation rod for a TU dinner in a couple of months and a swipe or two of polycrylic looks pretty good but I wonder how it would hold up versus automotive 2 part clear coat, which I have used if I need to refinish a blank. MinWax does not recommend that product for exterior use. At least not the Polycrylic product I'm aware of.

Just wipe on a little bit of Tru oil or a couple of coats of Perma gloss Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
