Greetings all,
Occasionally, I have seen references to 'the 27X'. Could somebody please tell me about that subject? Thanks in advance, Bob Re: what is '27x' ?

It is a multiplication factor used for locating the "choke point" for guide layout on a spinning rod. The factor is used in conjunction with the measurement of the diameter of the spool lip.
[www.rodbuilding.org] So ... let's say that this spool measures 2.0". Now 27 x 2.0" = 54". That would be the placement for the choke guide. The rest of the guides are positioned from that "starting" point. There is an article on the whole thing in one of the back issues of RodMaker magazine. Edited 1 time(s). Let me correct one thing lest we revisit the mistake some made earlier. The choke guide (there is only one choke guide) is not the butt guide. The choke guide is the first of the small running guides found on setups that employ the New Guide Concept system.

An aticle about the "New Guide Concept Primer" can be found in the Library section.

Greetings all; Again
I design NGC rods (spinning) using a little bit of 'math' on an MS 'Excel 2007' spreadsheet(SS). So, I am able to simulate the '27X' factor, and hence, got an interesting outcome; I reverse-engineered the specific SS for a Lami GLB 96 1M; 'so to speak' to illustrate (or compare factors) like the '27X factor'. For example, what was 'that' rods 27X factor? This particular design which, in fact, has worked quite well for "Bonito and Albie applications on Marthas Vineyard" reverse engineered out to '15.915X'. I'd sum that up to say my design has a much steeper slope going into the choke' entrance. However, I know it worked quite well. For what its worth. Good waggling. Bob Re: what is '27x' ?

Very glad your method works well for you.
The 27X factor is based on the reel, not the rod. ............ Re: what is '27x' ?

Greetings Tom,
My SS includes the spool OD, and a theoretical line path on the estimated centerline of guide rings on to the choke entrance. Thanks Tom Bob Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
