Mixing guides

When building an acid wrapped rod I can use double foot casting guides to get line to bottom and then use single foot spinning guides to the tip. Is this correct?

You can do whatever you like, its custom. I have seen plenty like that including 6 I built. It lessens the weight at the tip end ,that is a good thing. Just make sure to use the Forhan lock and make sure the guides will pass the knot size if one will have to go through it.

The line doesn't care how many legs or feet the guides have. Single foot guides work very well on the bottom of a rod (this is what they were originally designed for) and offer greater strength than you might imagine.

As Fred mentioned, the reduction in weight is a benefit.

I would add this - instead of using single foot spinning guides, I'd recommend that you use single foot fly rod guides. These have lower frames so they're not as apt to bend in use nor hang on things when you take the rod out of a rod locker or rod bag. They're plenty strong.

I've done one simple spiral and I used a single foot on top, no bumper guide, a single foot guide on 180 and micro's to the tip. I did have a micro tip top as well but found that tended to bend so I've replaced that with a regular tip top.

Thanks,
Chad Huderle
