wrapping recoil double foot guides

The double foot recoil guides I just received are are flattened down so far up on the leg of the guide (I still had to do minor prep with file before wrapping). Here's my question- how far up on that leg do I wrap? Where the flat ends or to where the guide begins to get farther away from the blank? or what??

I usually wrap up to the bend but I've never used Recoils.

Brandon,
Wrap until you are comfortable.

If in doubt - do a couple of test wraps of different lengths, to see what works best for you.

This is always the call of the rod builder, since some of these new guides really don't have a nice sharp defined bend. Rather, it is just a gradual change and thus allows wraps further up the guide.
As with any thing, just use good judgment.
Remember, with the recoils, which can bend and then come back, it doesn't make sense to wrap up so far, that if the guide bends, that the wrap would loosen.

Take care
Roger

Your wrap should remain flat. When you see your thread begin to climb, you're on the guide leg and should go no further.
