i've settled the issue of fly rod blank in one of my previous post.. now i'm just wondering, can i do up a fly rod with :
LSG guides (size 6 & 7) MNSG stripper (8 or 10) DPSD16 reel seat ? i've all of the parts right now .. but never really heard anyone building up a fly rod with DPSD seats.. blank would be a 2pc, 6' tiger eye blank.. - Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.. or at very least, i could cut out the hoods from the DPSD seat and use cork rings as the inserts - Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.. Teach a man to fish, he'll be broke! Re: fly rod on the cheap

Of course you can Chris. In fact, the DPSD seat will probably hold the reel the most securely, and the guides you suggest amount to a full ceramic setup that may weigh a bit more, but still perform very well, depending on what weight fly rod you want to build.
I have to say though, that with a 6ft fly blank, you are probably looking to build a short, small stream fly rod. Definitely one of the lighter weights. I would not go with a full ceramic set for that. However, if you are using a short spin blank to make an "undergrowth" stumpy fly rod, then you'll be fine. Edited 1 time(s). The DPSD will be the most functional seat you've ever used on a fly rod. As you mentioned, you can skeletonize it and make up your own barrel insert if you want a different look.
The other parts will work. The running guides will be a bit large, but they'll work if you just want to use parts at hand. ................. Re: fly rod on the cheap

Get the fly blank you want. Check out the numbers on the CCS site to make sure it is what it is said to be. Nothing is written in stone. I have always thought of the tiger eye's as an old Fenwick Nice blanks. Bill - willierods.com Re: fly rod on the cheap

"Fly rod blank" and "rated for 3/8 tp 3/4" do not seem to belong together! Is it a fly rod or spinning rod? Re: fly rod on the cheap

Phil,
i'm intending to build a fly rod using available blanks in my country (non of which are specifically for fly rods).. i'll be using most probably a spinning or casting blank to build.. as i understand from my previous post, i should be looking for a blank rated 1/8 to build a 2 weight fly rod - Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.. Teach a man to fish, he'll be broke! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
