If this is correct and the hardness of these stainless steel guide rings are Victors - 400 ??
That is the softest ring available. Is this right ?? Even with the coating, which can not be that thick [rodcomponents.koolhost.com] Bill - willierods.com Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/13/2009 07:48PM by bill boettcher. Re: minima guide ring hardness ???

The coating is very hard - forgot what the vickers is - but yes, it is also very thin. My question is how fast those wear through.

They are not going to be as hard as ceramics. In many cases, however, you do not need that sort of hardness. I have installed a couple sets just recently and plan to do what I can to wear through them, although I doubt that with mono it will be very easy to do so.
Daiwa used a similar ring in the mid to late 1980's - they were not prone to grooving with mono. Braid may be a different story, however. .............. Re: minima guide ring hardness ???

Tom, I am just surprised to see the work on the frames and then not use a harder ring. Bill - willierods.com Re: minima guide ring hardness ???

They are using about the hardest practical ring they can without going to a ceramic. The question is not, "is it as hard as ceramic?" but rather, "is it hard enough to do what you need to do?"
