Two quick questions.
Now that permagloss threadless have been out for a bit, anyone can comment on the longevity of this technique after being fished hard? Also, is Permagloss a good coating for UV protection? (i.e. Is it a good single coat to prevent UV from penetrating?) Thanks, Mos Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/13/2009 02:53PM by Mo Yang. UV will pass right through PermaGloss because PermaGloss is extremely clear. So anything underneath it gets the full effect of UV exposure. The only way to block UV, would be to use an opaque finish. In this regard, the epoxies that turn very brown do the best job of protecting the thread from UV.
PermaGloss will last and last and last. It's the toughest finish out there. .............. Re: Permagloss - longterm durability of threadless & does Permaglass shield UV?

Tom. Just to clarify. Some material can be completely clear and yet filter out UV light. But in this case, I take it that you are saying that PG does pass UV because of its properties, and not just because it is clear.
OK, back to the drawing board for a UV proof clear material. Thanks, Mo Re: Permagloss - longterm durability of threadless & does Permaglass shield UV?

PermaGloss does not filter out UV light.

Just use rod building thread (Gossamer or Naples in White), don't apply CP, use regular two-part epoxy as usual and ... POOF, vanished.

Hmm...my post never made it.
Anyways Jim, I've used Gossamer, no CP and permagloss. (Don't like Epoxy) My silk thread never poofed and remained white and visible for all to see. Mo Re: Permagloss - longterm durability of threadless & does Permaglass shield UV?

You COULD try playing around with urethane formulas that have a UV inhibitor ... but you will be in uncharted waters for sure. You WILL need to spend some money experimenting. Most of the available test subjects are only available in quarts and gallons ... at a pretty penny per purchase. Let us know if you find anything. UV inhibitors are not necessarily there to protect what's under the coating, but to protect the coating itself.

Maybe I missed it, but why do you need UV protection if there are no thread wraps? I didn't think G yellowed. Thanks. Re: Permagloss - longterm durability of threadless & does Permaglass shield UV?

Actually it is for a different application. Just MAY need UV protection.
