Blank advice

My buddy asked me to build a rod for his wife. Spinning, 6-3 to 6-6ft length med action 8 to 10# test , 1/4 to 5/8 oz lure.( she is 5 ft nothing and fishes from a boat).
She throws worms and cranks and sometimes a bobber with crawlers or minnows, whatever will work. She fishes for bass, white bass, not a purist and just wants a bent rod.
She is a klutz so it cannot be too brittle as she will break it. I suggested an off the shelf Shimano Voltaeus but she wants my feather inlays and i am not into cleaning up another persons rod labels just to put my feather work on it.

I was going to try a Batson for the first time: a CB66m . Been waiting a month + so far to get my order filled. Its always next week.
Is this blank worth the wait or should i look for another that is less like chicken teeth and would also fit the bill? If so, what do you suggest?

The Batson is nice, but if you can't get it when you need it... The Mudhole Custom Builder Blanks are a great option you should check out, great prices and nice colors.

Not sure where you're ordering your Batson blank from. There are many dealers for Baton Enterprises products and you might want to try more than one (if you haven't already). One of them may have it in stock.

Lou,

The CB66M, while a very nice blank, may not have enough backbone you for her use. I typically fish mine with cranks that the manufacturer designates as 1/4oz. and they really load the blank. It takes a very soft casting stroke to launch these baits with this blank. Are her worms open hooked or T-rigged? If she only throws open hooked lures, she can have a lot of fun with the CB66M.

If you or your buddy are looking to have the same lifting power as say a 1/4-5/8 oz. SB blank with a slower action, you(he) may be a bit disappointed with this blank.

Thanks, i have used the mudhole blanks and they work fine, wanted something lighter but still tough.
I am starting to think to go back to a ST Croix in SC2 or 3, i know them and they are nice and available.

I would suggest a Batson RX6 SB 781. You can cut a few inches off the butt to shorten it if needed.
