Get some Permagloss and finish them yourself. A foam brush or coffee filter work great to apply the finish onto the blank. Re: Painting and or Clearing Rod Blanks

Been meaning to ask this for some time since I have yet to use Permagloss but when builders add pigment, like Testors, and then apply it to a blank, is the resulting finish opaque or somewhat transparent? From when I have done it, it is translucent, you can see the blank through it. Re: Painting and or Clearing Rod Blanks

You would be unlikely to ever get enough pigment in the PG to make it opaque. If you did, you'd have so much in there that you might affect the characteristics of the product.
Just a few drops gives a nice tinted, translucent appearance. ........... Re: Painting and or Clearing Rod Blanks

I've been asked to tint a blank brown or copper colored. Is Testors the thing to use or is there something better?
Thanks! Re: Painting and or Clearing Rod Blanks

The pigment from a settled jar of Testors will work but straight powder pigments like TAP are probably better.

I'll try the Testors metallic copper enamel on a scrap.

You can also sand with 400 wet. Dry well, then spray with a auto paint. let dry and then clear coat. With permagloss -- be very fast. Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
