David,
I'm sure I have a piece that work for you. I assume you need an inner diameter of 9 mm. Let me know for sure and I'll see what I have. Robert Re: small piece graphite blank wanted

David -
You might find a fiberglass section to be more suitable. Read the primer on repair in the library. [www.rodbuilding.org] Jim - Re: small piece graphite blank wanted

A graphite oversleeve is going to create much stiffer section in that area - the sleeve needs to flex with the area around it. Glass may be better.

That's very kind of you Robert - the outside diameter is 9mm and the internal 7mm. Do you think I'd be better sleeving over the 9mm, or putting an insert into the 7mm? As the break is just above the reel seat I don't think the repair should alter the action of the blank too much ( I hope so anyway)!! I was attemptng to remove the reel seat at the time of breakage!!

You should read the article in library. It was written by the Dean of Rod Repair. There is a reason that Tom put all that wonderful information at your fingertips.
As to the fix ... I would most definitely use fiberglass. You are probably going to need both an inner AND outer splice, due to the location. BTW, using glass will come much closer to doing two things than graphite. It will help keep the action similar plus it will keep you from creating exaggerated stress points at the limits of the splices. Re: small piece graphite blank wanted

Thanks Jim, I did have a good read of the article, and I greatly appreciate the generosity of those who take the time to share thehir expertise. I agree about using both an inner and outer sleeve, but I don't feel comfortable about using glass. I 've had some disapointing experiences with glass in the past and I just can't shake that off!
many thanks again to all. David dw Re: small piece graphite blank wanted

Using a carbon outer (or inner) sleeve greatly increases the chance of failure.

David,
Unhide your email or send me an email. I probably have a glass piece I could send you with the graphite and you can decide which will work for you. Take Care, Robert Re: small piece graphite blank wanted

What do those that have tried it before think of using carbon fiber tubing for a fix like this? You could build the new seat on the CF tube and then attach it up about 6 or 7 inches above the break. A nice winding check where the CF tube ends will give it that high end JDM look. Re: small piece graphite blank wanted

The break is above the handle, and I suspect he would like to repair it and keep the handle setup.
Inner sleeve/spigot (graphite) and glass outer sleeve will give you the strongest repair. Being right above the handle, you can dress up the break with a simple butt wrap. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
