Hello, I'm new to this site and new to rod building.
I have a surf rod that I bought about 10 years ago. I was told it is a Lamiglas. It's a custom build. It's only markings are CSN '59. It is fiberglass. Is there any way of telling weather it is E-glass or S-glass. The finish is coming off in many places. I like the rod but would like to make a few changes to fit me better. How much trouble is it to strip to the blank and rebuild? Re: Old rod rebuild

Hi Jeff !
A 10 yr old surf rod , is a good subject to re-build , or up-grade . But being that summer has just begun and the surf is waiting to be fished , I would hold off till winter to re-do the rod. As to rebuilding , look for catalogs sush as Netcraft , Mud Hole , and the like , you can find them listed at the left . Being that the rod is 10 yrs. old you might look into newer guides etc. , study the rod , look at others decide what suits you best , then after the fishing season , go for it ! Strip it , paint it , giude it & wrap it , next season take it fishing ! What I am trying to say is take your time , plan your project , do it right . E-glass or S-glass does it really matter? Its LAMIGLAS which is a good blank any way you look at it . Good luck on your endeavor , Larry Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
