A newcomer to the spiral systems, I ran into the Simple Spiral article firsthand and have used it a few times. I like it. Works well and is easy to set up. I found the article easy to read and understand but there is some confusion. A builder I ran into yesterday was showing me a new rod that supposedly had the Simple Spiral and Bumper guide. He had what called Bumper Guides at two locations about sixty and one-twenty degrees with the others as normal. The zero and one-eighty guides were about eighteen inches apart.
Has something evolved that I am not aware of? This is not the Simple Spiral from the article I read. I recognize that change is part of evolution of our techniques and wonder if there is an updated article I have missed. Re: Confusion on Spirals

No, nothing has been added or changed on the Simple Spiral. I run into this quite often and find that many who have not read the article are confusing "Bumper" guide with "Transition" guide. They are not the same thing.
What your friend has built is a standard "Roberts" or "Revolver" spiral wrap. It does not have a "Bumper" guide, it has transition guides that take the line around and under the rod. It works very well, but it something entirely different than the Simple Spiral. ................. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
