Would CCS apply to spey rods?

I was just thinking (which can be/is dangerous) if CCS could be applied effectively to spey rods. I would guess the drawback is the height needed to allow the deflection. Would a spey blank ccs be informative or not? I was also wondering if anyone runs CCS on a blank and then reruns it on the same blank after guides etc are wrapped. It seems to me that running the numbers on a finished rod would answer some of the arguments about single foot wire versus ceramics affecting the rod rating.

It can be effectively applied to any tube or shaft. It does not care what the object is. It's just a relative power and action rating. Occasionally I see someone make a statement that it can't be applied to some type of rod, but that's absurd. That's like saying a tape measure will measure the length of a wooden object but not the length of a metal object.

There is always a difference between a naked blank and a finished rod. The ERN has enough resolution to note the slight drop in power caused by the addition of component weight (guides and finish). The CCF also reflects this in terms of rod reaction and recovery speed. You will see a drop there, also.

The Common Cents System applies to ALL rods. It is just as relative on spey and two-handed rods as any other rods.

The only thing you may find, is that if you are going to use the ERN to get a recommended line the standard suggestion of ERN = ELN will not work as well. That is fine for regular single handed rods at thirty feet but on spey rods you will have to alter the equation a bit to get a good match. But the ERN is still perfectly accurate as a relative power rating.

Hello Tom Kirkman and John Kepka and Richard Kuhne: I would like to know what the CCS system is and how to apply it and what it is designed to do. Then I will understand this post and can see if the CCS system is something I should use.

Thanks

Bill V.
