Cabelas Blank?

I have a customer that is looking for a very specific rod and after a long search the one that fits his need best is a Cabelas Fish Eagle II blank. I haven't ordered a Cabelas blank in about 20 years. Any thoughts or comments on them? He asked who makes them, and I honestly don't know. Any guesses?

Thank you,

Marc

Several companies make blanks for Cabelas. In general their blanks are good and have a lot of loyal fans.

Fish Eagle II blanks are a great value for the $$ paid.

I have built all of my personal pike and walleye rods for Canadian fishing on the FishEagle II blanks. I consider them to be very good, durable blanks at a very good price although I note that there has been a significant increase in price this year.

I have built on a few of the Fish Eagle II blanks both spinning and casting and like them both.
They are an IM6 graphite with good flex and the price is right. Weight is pretty good also (not heavy).
I used their cork grips the rubberized cork on front grip and rear grip (spinning) they make a nice combination.
I would however stay away from their IM7 blanks as they are not very durable, very thin walled.
I made a post about a month ago on these you should read.

I've built spinning, casting and fly rods on Cabela's blanks.
My first choice for a value blank comparable with St Croix SCII.
Not the prettiest or lightest, but good, durable, sensitive fishing rods.

Wow, thank you. I may have to try one myself. They are a good price.
Thanks to everyone.

The Fish Eagle II blanks were about the best bang for the buck when it came to lower-priced rod blanks. They ran around $30 or so until recently. Actually, the old ones(probably 5 years or more) were made in the USA(I've heard by Loomis but can't confirm), and were in the $70-100 range. The new blanks(with the "diamond weave" butt section) are made in China. Cabela's recently raised the prices but I would definitely still consider them to be a good value.

There are quite a few on the website right now on-sale for $29,99. If you have a Cabelas near you, they will ship them to the store for pick-up, no shipping. That would sure make a good entry level custom for someone on a budget. I saw some in the winter on sale for $19,99.
