Which types of threads should a guy stay away from? Any advice would be great....

What Raymond said! If you use Polyestor sewing threads such as Madeira be aware that they are often lubed for sewing machine use and CP should be used!

Not necessarily so. Madiera is not made for rodbuilding, and a lot of fancy threadwork is done with it. And, just about the only thing I use anymore for the "standard" colors is Coats and Clark trilobal polyester. I have at least 20 spools, and have never had the first problem with any silicon impregnation. I can get a big ole spool for only about $4, and I actually like the way it goes on better than nylon now.
