Finish Glitter

At one time the rage was tiny sparkle glitter in epoxy finish. I have an idea for a colored effect and wonder where I would find this glitter and if it can be had in solid colors rather than the multi colored stuff I have seen in the past.

Check a craft store like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Joanne's. Look for micro glitter. I have some that came in a multi pack with six colors, each color in an individual tube.

I've also used a product called pearlX (from Hobby Lobby) and gotten some interesting results.

[rileyrods.com]

We have more on hand that we will be adding shortly. Feel free to call for other colors until then. The micro flakes on the bottom of the page are so tiny they airbrushable.

I'll post some pics.

IMO, you want really fine stuff! The "flakes" end up anything but subtle

Flake size should be proportionate to guide size. Micro glitter............

I had good luck with micro glitter from Hobby Lobby, but looking at the Riley website, I'd order from them as it looks to be a little finer than what I have.

Second the Pearl EX pigments/glitters a little goes a VERY long way. Add gold to your favorite clear and wipe.spray it on a black blank and you have a sweet glittery rootbeer rod blank...............They are airbrushable and very fine. They also have duotone/color shift options.

When you use glitter for the guide wraps, are you putting it in the epoxy during mixing or sprinkling it on after application? I have some pearl i use in automotive clear i was considering mixing in some epoxy. I am just worried it will look mottled like when you get a run applying automotive clear. Maybe i am overthinking. I just need to try it and see i guess.

The glitter, microflake and pearls all disperse well in epoxy. The challenge is that they pull from the ends and higher points during application.

Does it work better to put a thin 1st coat with no glitter to half way "level" everything out then do a second coat with the glitter in it?

Normal glitter REALLY grind it up in a pestle and morter until its like DUST
Absolutly wicked finish and about a quarter the price
This is airbrushable as well
(its basically a smaller scale of the micro gitters)

I put fine gold dust glitter in epoxy a while ago to match the existing finish on a repair. The glitter did not fully suspend in the epoxy after mixing and I had to dip the brush down enough to make sure I picked up some glitter, not just finish, on each brush refill while applying it on the wraps. The end looked very much like the original wraps. Just something you may need to look for when applying, depending on what glitter you choose.
