Help!! I was given a G. Loomis fly rod blank to build for a friend of mine. I don't know what kind of blank it is, but I do know that she has had it for 9-10 years!! It was given to her as a gift. She put it up and forgot about it. She was cleaning out her garage this week and found it. It is a burgandy, 8 1/2 foot, two-piece rod. She is pretty sure it is a 5 weight rod. Can anybody help me out with guide spacing? I found the guide spacing on Loomis' website, but don't know what model blank I have. Can I use the guide spacing for a like rod, or would that be bad news? Please let me know what to do!! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/02/2009 03:13AM by jonathan r ghazal. Jonathon, do a static line distribution test on the rod. This will be better then it probebly was originally if its a factory rod. You can find plenty of how too just either search above or fnd the rm article on it Good luck Billy Re: G Loomis guide spacing for OLD blank!

It won't be bad news, but it won't be optimum. But it will work okay.
Most likely you have one of the old IM6models from the mid to late 1980's. ................. Re: G Loomis guide spacing for OLD blank!

I haven't checked lately but at one time G Loomis used identical spacing for all of their 9', 2pc. flyrods in GLX and IMX material. This indicates that their spacing works but as the blank characteristics varied considerably some fine tuning by a custom builder was appropriate. Start out by using the guide spacings for a GLoomis GL3 fly rod and adjust from there. Re: G Loomis guide spacing for OLD blank!
