I was just given a rod that was supposed to be a simple repair, replace a broken guide. The person i'm doing the repair for loves this rod, its a bait cast Cotton Cordell. He really loves this rod and want me to do a complete repair. He wants all new guides, reel set and cork handle and grip... My question is, he would also like to have the sheen the rod had when he first got it. Would cleaning the blank and then applying permagloss work,or would there be something else I would need to do?
Thanks Fernando Torres-NERB Re: Rod Finish

Cleaning it alone might do the trick, otherwise adding a coat of Permagloss would certainly do it. Any good, clear exterior urethane will do this. You may find it easier to spray the rod with a coat of Helmsman clear gloss Spar Urethane.

Try one of the automotive cleaner waxes. If this works nicely strip the rod. use the wax cleaner then wash it well in denatured alcohol.
the cleaner wax ( try your nearest valet bay or detailers shop they may GIVE you a small bottle free) has a slight "cutting action" that will cut through any oxidization and light scratchest BEWARE though when you rewrap it be SURE to use cp to make sure you dont have any silicon residue (there shouldnt be if you use a bodyshop product as silicon is banned is most bodyshop products) Re: Rod Finish

Tom,
I did try the cleaning but it lacks the luster and shine a blank would have when you first get it.. I will give the Permagloss a shot, since I have already ordered it for a couple of my personal rods I will be re-doing. Thanks Fernando-NERB Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
