I think it would be easier to find and use aluminum tubing over sleeving your blank. Re: 12" Long Rod Tubes

There are specialty tubing suppliers which you can locate via the internet. They sell carbon fiber tubing by the foot in a wide variety of sizes and wall thicknesses. Your problem is going to be in buying a single short length like that.
Don't overlook local yard sales this weekend - plenty of cheap, broken or damaged rods are sold for a few dollars each. Something there may do the job for you. ................ Re: 12" Long Rod Tubes

Aluminum is a far superior product than brass.
I've seen custom kite builders use graphite tube that looked to maybe be in your OD range, just by looking at it, but you'll have to buy it in a set length of 48 to 60 inches probably. Don't know anything about the quality or stiffness of this material. Re: 12" Long Rod Tubes

Richard,
I agree with Spencer on the aluminum. If you had a thin-walled aluminum tube it would weight next to nothing - far less than the brass. Do a search on MudHole for item: GT19x16. There description says it's a 16mm woven graphite tube 19" long. Maybe it's exactly what you're looking for... maybe not. (also in their 2009 catalog on pg. 96) I'm not sure what you're looking for as far as taper , or if it matters, but a graphite golf shaft may work too. Gook luck, Re: 12" Long Rod Tubes

I now use the unsanded graphite blanks from Mudhole ( see sponsors on the left) for this purpose. Ask for ones under 6ft and save on shipping and get a variety of diameters/tapers. Having a variety allows you to more closely match the taper of what you are trying to extend/join/repair. A caliper helps too. I just cut out what i need for repairs, extensions, reel arbors etc. I use a dremel and wheel to cut it. You will have to peel off some cellotape like wrapping on some but at about $5 a 5 to 6ft section its hard to beat the price and they have held up fine for me in both fresh and light salt applications. ALuminum tubing - the one time I used the thin walled Aluminum tubing I extended a rod by 15", putting the reel seat at teh joint. It took 3 casts for the aluminum to break. YOu're probably OK for 4". Find scrap rods - in your basement, at a tackle shop, ask friends. I think I prize my extenstion box and scrap rod pile more than some of my discontinued blanks, lol. Lamiglas used to sell blank extentions as well. Re: 12" Long Rod Tubes

Do what Lou suggests. 4" is not much. Well prepped you can put your extention inside the butt. I always use Rod Bond. Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
