Epoxeing Cross Wraps

Gentlemen:
Getting ready to epoxe my work and was wondering if there is a superior or faster way to epoxe about 10" of cross wraps.
I currently use a brush, apply epoxe and brush it horizontally and it takes a while, any many coats due to the wrap soaking up a lot of epoxe (no CP)
Any streamlined methods you can suggest?

Thanks again,
Tom

Is this a open or closed wrap? If It is open I would fill in the open areas first Then go back and apply finish to one band then put finish on the opposing band. Then level off horizontally If it is a closed wrap try applying finish in one direction, the apply finish in the opposite . Try using a brush ½ the width of the wrap

I use a credit card loaded with alot of epoxy and lay it on while the rod turns. I angle it a little so it 'bunches up' on one end and slide it down the wrap. I usually need to load the credit card about three times to cover the wrap.

Visa, Master Card, or Discover, I find the Visa works the best.

The Visa is good in more places too,

A deck of playing cards work well too. You will have 52 of them also.

Tom, what takes a while to load up a 1/2" wide brush with finish and slather on finish? If you are using the throw away brushes, which many people do - you are using the wrong tool for the job. 3 years ago I bought a cheap set of flat brushes from a craft shop, it was in the sale bin and was $5. IT came with brushed form 1/8" up to 1" wide, and had 12 brushes in there. I've been using the same 4 brushes since then - you need to just trim some of th hair so they don't hold too much epoxy. I cut about 1/2 the bristles off, and make sure the edge bristles are aligned, over time they will start to stick out, just snip them off. Clean up by wiping with a paper towel and soaking in U40 Brush Solvent until the next time you need them.

I use a painters spatula available at any art store,, also a rodbuilders spatula gives the same results. I paint on large splotches with a brush and then work the coating with the spatula.

Here's something I do that works really well. I got a 6" wide stiff putty knife from Lowe's. As long as it's straight and not cupped it works perfectly.
