Looking for sugestions for a tarpan rod blank. I am thinking in the 50lb line class. I'd rather be catching! Re: Tarpan Blank

Seeker is making blanks for GRumpy's TAckle in NJ specifically for Tarpon fishing in Trinidad, tehy ahve a light one and a heavy one, I think they've caught Tarpon to 140#'s. These are Composite blanks, 7'3 in length which have a moderate action. IT's similar to a CSW709 without that soft super fast tip. Re: Tarpan Blank

Greetings,
A few years ago, I built an NGC Tarpon Rod using the 9' LAMI GLB1082MH Blank ,which was selected, after a lot of personal research. My rod is a two piece rod to allow for airline travel from Massachusetts and is surely tough enough for Tarpon, Stripers, and Tuna (eg yellow-Fin). As a rod builder, I gave special attention to the Tarpon tournament at Boca Grand (seen on the Sunshine Channel via DirectTV) that occurs most every late spring. I sought to 'eyeball' the equipment used by highly skilled pro's and did just that. And; that show may be as good of a source for you to see and assess the equipment which the pros used. My 9' LAMI GLB1082MH looks to be in that class. The idea was for casting 1 3/4 oz and above Megabait (metal lures) sight-fishing in RedFish Pass at Captiva, Fl. Oh yeah; they like Megabaits with tail-feathers. I built the rod to cast Megabaits from 180 to 275 feet. Unfortunately, the original attraction for being able to cast to 'daisy chaining fish' and 'porpoising fish' didn't happen for the 2 weeks that I was 'there' 3 years ago. They did 'this' another year while I was there but then, I only had 'snook' gear. This time, I was compelled to fish, casting in the blind, and I had limited success. I did hookup once with an 80 pound class fish that began by taking a lot of line. Then, when I turned the drag down the tarpon' run slowed and it half- jumped clear of the water. Nexttime, it cleared the water by 5 feet looking me in the eye; gave me one shake and then it was downtown. One Tarpon lost. After that, I fished everyday for at least a week without further appearances or pickups. Pina Coladas were nice. I can send my rod design in PDF form if you want. I have lost track if Lami still sells that blank. Todd Vivian at MudHole tackle may know. I hope I have answered your questions. Bob Marie Re: Tarpan Blank
