Thread Master

I have been trying a different brand of thread finish each time I need a new batch. I have used UB 40 and Flex Coat and I just started using Thread Master and really like how it mixes and goes on. However, it really has a strong smell to it. The first time I used it the whole basement smelled and it was strong too. Is the Thread Master any more hazardous than any of the other brands? I know the safe handling procedures but it sure smells more than the others.
Thanks,
Steve

No, it's not a solvent just a little different hardener so it has a little different smell to it. Epoxies aren't generally hazardous to the degree that many solvent based finishes are, but you should still use it in a ventilated area and try not to get any on your skin. If you become "sensitised" to it, and some do, your days using epoxy will be over.

I like the smell of the urethanes such as perma gloss, they make me feel good!! Joking of course, I have come across a few epoxies and can atest that they are not usually hazardous as they don't "Make you feel good" or bad for that matter. Just smell bad. I don't recommend using in you bedroom, as I have to in the winter because of lack of temp control in my shop, as the wife gets slightly (read that as a whole lot!!) preturbed at the wonderful fragrance that lingers. I have no issues with the wife using Flexcote or Duragloss.

Funny you say this. I never notice a smell, but my wife came into the room from the basement and mentioned she "could smell my glue" down there. I'm using threadmaster too and have never smelled anything, but apparently she can. Maybe its like cyanide and only certain people "have the gift".

Regards,
-Justin

Those of you who are from the old school. Do you remember the thread finish put out by Clemons? The stuff stunk to the high heavens. It made me sick before, I WOULD GET HIGH. Cody you sound like a custom auto painter I knew years ago. While he would be painting a car he would turn off the all the fans just to get high. When he died they did not have to embalm him. They just set him out in the sun and waited for him to cure, Today they have him outside of the shop in all kinds of weather inviting people in LOL
