I have seen a few big manufacturers including ST. Croix which use the bridge guide as a transition between the double foot and fly guides on their casting rods.

For me, they are the worst guide Fuji makes. They get mangled and bent and knocked out of alignment very easily - during transport, not while fishing.

I've yet to find any application for them. There are already too many guide sizes as it is - there is really no need to "bridge" anything.

I have sometimes used them as a second stripper on light weight fly rods. Usually on something like a 8'6" 2wt or a 9' 3wt. Mostly for aesthetic reasons rather than mechanical. I have never had a problem with the but then most folks carry a fly rod in a protective tube.

I'm building an 2S60MF for a buddy of mine as a casting rod. I ordered a fuji bridge guide for it just to see what it's like. I think I'm probably going to go with a BLAG 6 instead, the BLAG just seems to have more "beef".

Thanks for the comments above, you've encouraged me that I'm making the correct decision.

I used them on my first spiral build about six years ago.....for some reason I thought I needed something like that for the transition......man....those guides stink.,...Billy is right on...they bend, break, and just tick you off.

I used a bridge guide on the first casting rod I built, and within weeks it deformed and had to be removed from the rod.
I know I won't be using any more of them in the future - I'll just add an additonal SF to the mix instead.

Tight wraps,
B

I never used them, but if they are so bad, why do they even make them any more

I think that the main purpose is to have another guide to sell Marketing has convinced some manufacturers to use them
