This is probably a dumb question, but I've been out of the loop since we moved a few years ago...
A friend of mine shattered the ceramic in his tip guide, and it got replaced with what appeared to be a simple wire guide. (no ceramic insert). He fishes braid in the salt, so it looked like it would never last... Well, it turns out, it's some kind of titanium alloy, and it's held up well for a year, now My question is what kind of guide was that, and where can I buy some? It's super light, and won't shatter, so I'd love to experiment with some. -TH Re: Titanium wire guides with no ceramic ???

Hi Tony,
The titanium wire guides and tip tops work great. I have used the RECs on customer's rods. You may hear the line sing as it goes thru. That is a normal thing. Capt Neil Faulkner Re: Titanium wire guides with no ceramic ???

what color was the guide? There are several guides with titanium in them or coating around them. Re: Titanium wire guides with no ceramic ???

Thanks for the leads, guys. Will check out REC immediately.
Strangely, I can't remember the color... Either gold or chrome, but I can't remember which right now. Will have to call Lloyd and ask. Hopefully, I can find the exact ones. It was nicer than the original SIC, in my opinion. -TH Re: Titanium wire guides with no ceramic ???

Just took a look at the REC site.
It looks like the stuff, but I don't see any tip guides, besides the fly guides... Is this a mistake, or don't they make them? Other than that, they look like the right thing. The tip guide I'm talking about had a double coil of wire, just like the REC running guides. Not like a fly guide. Anyone else know about this? Thanks. -TH Re: Titanium wire guides with no ceramic ???

Hi Tony,
Go right to the source. Call REC!!! Get your correct info from the folks that make the product. You will not be disappointed. Call REC!!! They are great people to talk with. Don't depend on third hand info when the best info is a phone call away. Capt Neil Faulkner Re: Titanium wire guides with no ceramic ???

Looks like they took the tip tops off the market, though I see that Mudhole still have them, the RSCT. Many of the factory rods and my own personal rods have a Fuji Ti or other tip top in a matching color due to some of the tip tops grooving over time. I have only had it happen on one rod, that I use a lot. Many have had no problems. Re: Titanium wire guides with no ceramic ???

A lil sand\grit gets in the braid and it causes the line to become very abrasive to these types of guides, of course every scenario if this is going to happen is different with so many more factors depending on the fishing your doing. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
