Question on decals

I've been using decals lately but in some situations the surface is not always flat or the case of rodbuilding, not cylindrical. I recall reading about a technique that model railroaders use to apply decals to different textured surfaces and they have a way to get the decals to bend, melt or conform to whaver surface is needed. I believe they apply some type of liquid to the decal, or surface under the decal, to give the decal some measure of elasticity. My objective is to find a way to apply a waterslide decal to a rounded surface, such as a butt grip, without getting wrinkles, etc.
I've been Googling around trying to find the topic but no luck so far. If anyone has any info I'd vertainly like hear about it. Meanwhile I'll be doing more searching as well. In advance, Thanks. Thanks, Chad Huderle Huderle Custom Rods Prior Lake, MN Re: Question on decals
