Doing a little repair work for a friend on a broken rod. Made it into a two piece using a old piece of fiberglass for the ferrule. There is just a little loose play in the fit. The ferrule is on the butt section and the top piece is the male. What do some of use to tighten the fit just a smidge? Thanks Re: Ferrule Fit

What type ferrule is this? A spigot?
Generally fitting the ferrule requires careful trimming and when possible careful sanding. Additives and waxes are short term fixes, it fixes at all. .......... Re: Ferrule Fit

If you've got a spigot type ferrule, how about wiping on a thin coat of epoxy, and then truing it up with very fine (400-600 grit) sandpaper as the butt is turning in your winding motor? That would give you a slight increase in the spigot OD, and allow you to adjust the coating thickness until the fit is where you want it. Re: Ferrule Fit

Steve,
Your discribing an over-sleeve butt over tip ferrule? If so, the smaller diameter of the tip section at the end of the over-sleeve would be the problem. Your putting a cone into a tube from the opposite direction. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Ferrule Fit

Duh! Ray, you hit it right on the head! I rushed this puppy for a friend and did a quick doctor late last night. Think we'll make it a one piece. Thanks Re: Ferrule Fit

If this is a situation where you're putting the tip into the butt, and it's an oversleeve, then you're putting a smaller piece into a larger piece. Not a good design.

Will not be too easy but if you can take the furrel off the butt section, and if you have more scrap, clean up the butt and find a section to fit on the tip section and over the butt section. A better way to do it. Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
