HI all, I'm loooking to build my first spinning rod, and I have no idea what i really need in terms of length and weight. I want to be able to spin in the surf for bass, and to use on bigger rivers for sea trout, steelhead or similar. Can anyone give me some pointers?
cheers
DW

I would think you would want a steelhead blank set up NGC for a reel in the Shimano 2500 to 4000 range. I have a Forecast SH1084 that would probably so what you are wanting to do.

We need the lure/bait weight requirements for your application to make a good recommendation.

Dave,
One of the best things you could do is to talk with other fishermen that are fishing the same waters and in the style that you want to fish.

Get a consensus of the needed rod and go for it.

There are so many variables and local needs and traditions, that it is very tough to recommend any thing specific from afar.

If you could specify a line test, a lure size, an expected fish size to be caught, a required casting distance, a rod length range - for ease of use and or transport - the advice will be much better.

Take care
Roger
