I am going to do a rod for a Steelers fan.

I think I will marlbe black and yellow on the butt end and wondered if i could do an open chevron on top of it
. How would this look? and what colors should I use besides black and yellow for the Chevcron ? Also I will go with a Steelers decal some where.

Thanks,

Bill

I believe they have a small bit of white in their uniforms.

I would use the NCP yellow as it will more closely resemble the yellow the Steelers use. Same with the white.

A base wrap of black with yellow and white trims would be very attractive.

If your client is a true Steeler fan, he will know that the colors are BLACK and GOLD.

Black, goldish yellow (its a deep dark yellow), the helmet also has the trio of blue, yellow and red stars on it so you can incorporate that if you want as well as the white.

Bill, I'm in the middle of the same project.
Take a look at the Steeler jersey, it does indeed have a white band. (I didn't know this and I bleed Black and Gold)
As for thread color I'm doing black, white(002 Gudebrod) , and goldenrod (209 Gudebrod). White and goldenrod are NCP. (the gold Gudebrod looked a little too green to me)
For my rods, I've turned some ebony for the handles and copied the arm bands in eva for a reel seat.
Also a gold winding check from Mudhole.

Tom,

Your idea sounds very neat and easy.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas,

Don, I grew up a Browns` fan and it is so hard for me to say gold that every time I try yellow comes out. Yeah, I know, they whip us every time we play them anymore. Ever since the bottle throwing incident i t was an embarrassed Browns fan and I tried to switch to the Steelers and I was not allowed. They all said a true Steelers fan had never rooted for a Cleveland team. I was hurt, so i remain a Brown for ever.

Bill,

I've done 2 so far, it may not be to your liking but the last one I built I wrapped the guides in black and Gold (yellow) jasper thread. Looked awesome and the lady I built it for loved it!!

The last rod I finished was a Steelers themed rod. I used regular Gudebrod black nylon, NCP white and NCP goldenrod colors - all with 2 coats of cp before finish was applied. The colors came out pretty close. A nice touch was a Steelers fingernail decal/sticker in the butt wrap.
