I've seen a cork drill that would cut the end of a cork grip so you can insert the hood of a reel seat, but remember were I saw it. Anyone remember?

I saw a video on YOUTUBE of a guy doing it and he named the tool. Do a search on there for rodbuilding...

One of our former sponsors sold/sells it - Dan Craft. It's called a "Crafty's Cutter."

I think Mud Hole may have it as well.

Michael,

I think what you're after is a Crafty's Cutter........go to www.dancraftent.com. Some of the sponsors may carry something similar. I've also used some of the small hole cutters that you can pick up at the hardware store. You'll usually find them among the drill bits.

Hoods come in various sizes - even from the same manufacturer and model.
So I bot a couple of hole saws and doctored them to cut exact size hole I needed.
You can do that by adjusting the kerf size. buy a saw that will produce a slightly larger hole and grind the two or three teeth that produce the largest kerf. Gring a bit at a time until correct. I control depth either by eye or by dropping the piolet drill to a level that would stop the drill. Very inportant that you swap the drill for a smooth 1/4" SS shaft so you do not alter the 1/4" hole in the cork.

Michael,
I am not sure - but I doubt if the crafty could port a rubberized cork rink. The hole saw makes it easy.
