I have an easy question: What is the basic difference beween a spin blank and a casting blank? And,can I do a spiral wrap on a spin blank. The problem is I have been unable to locate a 7' 2 piece casting blank. The rods are for someone who prefers a two piece rod.
I've made 150 spin rods and never gave this a thought before now. Will appreciate ay comments. Thanks Re: Spin/Cast blanks

As far as i can tell spin blanks are "Less Stiff" or fast as casting blanks. I have built spinners on casting blanks and actually prefer them at times. There really isn't a difference a blank is a blank! Re: Spin/Cast blanks

No difference. A blank is a blank is a blank. "Casting" and "Spinning" are catalog designations, nothing more. Any blank can be used for any either type rod.

I dont think the reels read the lables that manufacturers put on the blanks packaging. I cross the uses all the time to achieve the actions I want. Dont let lables get in the way of making rods. I also almost always make my own ferrules and cut 1 pc rods down. Life is an adventure til the game is over. Jason Kesckes. Aint no fish'n like bass fish'n Re: Spin/Cast blanks

The exact same blank is often packaged both ways. In fact, this is true most of the time.

Thanks guys. I suspected the blank is a blank rule and the Marketing angle. Now I can find the blanks I need.

Check with Black Dog Tackle. They carry some reasonably priced two-piece blanks in the seven foot length. Re: Spin/Cast blanks

Also look at Rainshadow. To make things a little easier, all you have to consider is rod length, line and lure weight plus action and power. a blank is a blank. It does not care if it is made into a casting or spinning rod. Fly rods are little different they are generally slow action rods Good Wraps Bob Re: Spin/Cast blanks

My wife prefers to use Spin/Cast rods and I sprial wrap the rods I make for her. She likes them and prefers them over the normally wrapped rods. The grand kids like the sprial wrap Spin/Cast rods also.
