im going to start to wrap my first diamonds and i think i got the just of it. only im confused after the first chevron is wrapped. the "cross" i thinbk its called comes between the chevrons? is this thread that will stay there or will i remove it? the place i taped my thread down above the handle for the first chevron, is this the same place i tape the thread down for the next chevron to make the diamond? or do i go 180 degrees to the other side to start it? if i use a winding check does this go on after the wrap is completed or before? why do people use a under wrap for the diamonds? color? how many strands of thread should i use?

this board has been a huge help. i cant thank enough!!!

On diamonds, you wrap on both sides of the center. What you do on the left, you also then do on the right.

On chevrons, you only wrap to one side or the other of the center. Either all left, or all right.

Tom is right, for diamonds after you wrap your layout threads, you wrap up the rod on both left and right and down the rod on the left and right
There are a few ways to wrap chevrons though depending on where you want the point of the chevron pointed to the left the point will face the butt or down the rod and right will face toward the rod tip. Tom mentioned those two but you can also make the chevon point across the rod by alternating left up and right down ,to point the chevron the other way you alternate up right and down left, make sense?

Greg,
There is a very good and lengthly tutorial on cross-wraps by BD Ehler post on the
Threadwork page of my website. see link in my signature.
Hope it helps you get a good start.

Ray said it best, I seldom use an under wrap when I do diamonds, I try to match the color of the rod and use contrasting or similar matching threads.
