I'm looking for some info on how to do grip inlays. I mainly use cork but I occasionally get a request for an offshore rod with EVA grips & would like to try inlays on both. I've done all sorts of trim rings, never attempted inlays though. Thanks

Terry Henson did some inlays in cork with actual bugs. Do a search in the photo's for custom inlays/grips. Mark Blabaum and John Timberlake are a couple more that come to mind that build some beautiful grips, but there are lots of artistic builders here.
Naturally just my opinion, but I really like the work these guys do. H Re: grip inlays

There will be an article in Rodmaker MAgazine at some point outlining Bernie Cohen's method, he's pretty muchte "GOdfather" of grip inlays. He & Emil Baggeto, aswell as Carlos Serrales who still builds in Florida. THEre are how to's in the archives here, basically they are jigsw puzzles glued together and glued into teh grips. At somepoint I hope to do a book/DVD on Decorative GRips covering several medums and several typesof grip inlays, from rings, to ellipticals, to image inlays. Re: grip inlays

That article will be running in the issue we mail around the first of June. It's already been outlined and prepared for publication.

Steve I sent you a couple of tutorials on inlays or segmented turnings. I hope it helps, let me know if you don't get it or have questions. Thanks Mark Re: grip inlays

Thanks everyone. Billy, I thought YOU were the "Godfather" of grip inlays... lol. You're a freakin' artist man! Can't wait for the book. I'm waiting another couple weeks on the Rod Maker subscription, lucky the wife is still letting me stock up on components.
Thanks Mark, I'll check when I get home as I can't get to that email address from work. I think I know the very basics but I don't get a lot of time for trial and error. Thanks again all, Steve Re: grip inlays

no not me at all!!! I learned Bernie's method, which is probably teh easiest way for people to do the inlays. I've come up with my own method, which requires a bandsaw, adn I'm going to start working with a scrollsaw for even more detail. IT really isn't hard to do, tehy just take a long time to glue up. Bernie was mailing his "how to" out to everyone (not e-mailing), so TOm is runnign teh article to make it easier and cheaper for BC to pass on his knowledge. Re: grip inlays

Right, it costs Bernie a lot of money to send a packet out by mail so this should get his method out and he won't have to incur all the postage fees.
