I've recently purchased a 5C70MF blank and it is the "old color" gloss brown.
I don't particularly care for the color, and I understand that this finish does not wear very well. So... I'd like to remove the brown finish and apply a coat of Permagloss. I'm no cosmetician - am I potentailly getting myself in trouble? How should I proceed, if at all? Thank you, Rick Re: St Croix SC V brown blank - refinishing

Understand that altering the blank finish may void the warranty. If that doesn't bother you, then proceed.
The old finish does wear well - it just doesn't stand up to solvents, even the milder ones. You may be able to wipe it off with alcohol, if not IPO, then denatured. Acetone will certainly strip it clean. Wash with water, scuff with fine Scotchbrite and "swipe" on a coat of PG. Wait 30 minutes and then do another swipe with PG. 2 or 3 coats is all you need. ............... Re: St Croix SC V brown blank - refinishing

Thank you - I consider the warranty to be part of the St Croix value. Since the finish does wear well, I will leave well (enough) alone.
